Top 9 Essential Oils to Decrease Stress and Anxiety

September 17, 2017

As a counselor, I'm always looking for ways to provide my clients practical and helpful ways to decrease their stress and anxiety. You can imagine Essential Oils play a big part in my therapy sessions, being a Scentsy consultant and all... it's almost necessary, wouldn't you agree? After work, I also need to destress so you guessed it, Essential Oils are also diffused at home! Here is my go-to list of Essential Oils to relieve anxiety and stress! These scents have been tried and tested by my clients and myself!

1. Lavender Oil

Surprise! Lavender oil is at the top of the list! In several studies, the calming effects of Lavender have been found to be as powerful as the prescription drug lorazepam without the side effects! Lavender oil has been a natural remedy for sleep problems, pain and cognition issues for hundreds of years.

In fact, a study published in the Journal of Alternative Complementary Medicine shows that patients suffering from insomnia experienced up to 60% improvement in their sleep quality when using lavender.

There's a reason why a bouquet of roses is the ultimate gift! The smell of roses helps relieve depression and anxiety by releasing feel-good hormones in the brain. Bonus Alert: Blending Rose oil with Chamomile oil creates the ultimate anxiety killer! While many studies have shown how chamomile can help calm your mind, it can also help to relieve stress and improve digestion. Additionally, a study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine found that, in addition to decreasing anxiety, chamomile essential oil has anti-depressant effects.
